Registration is open for the 2016 YFC Runway Run
The Fredericton International Airport Authority is delighted to be hosting the YFC Runway Run for a second year. Join us as we take off for mental health on May 28, 2016!
Remember, last year’s run sold out in just 6 weeks – we’re offering the early-bird special again this year, so get your registration in by Dec 31, and you’ll save money AND be guaranteed a spot!
New & Improved
Our very first YFC Runway Run was a huge success, but we’re not resting on our laurels! We’ve been listening to our runners, and looking for ways to make this year’s event even better. Here are a few of the changes in store:
- NEW SWAG this year – all runners will get a fantastic running hat instead of a t-shirt! (and we’ll have a new, awesome finisher’s medal, too)
- Transfers: Because last year’s run sold out so quickly, we know that some people saw their plans change, meaning that they couldn’t make it to the event. This year, you can transfer your registration to a friend if you discover you’re not going to be able to attend. Runners are responsible for completing the transfers via the RaceRoster website (see site for full details).
- We want to accommodate as many runners as we can without compromising our ability to pull off a top-notch event. We’ve increased the number of runners just a bit, and will have 325 runners in 2016.
Two things haven’t changed: the registration fees and our support for Canadian Mental Health Association of New Brunswick. Last year we raised over $20,000 for CMHANB, and this year we’re planning to do even better!
Why mental health?
Last year, our very first YFC Runway Run raised over $20,000 to support the work of the Canadian Mental Health Association of new Brunswick – and more importantly, by openly talking about mental illness and its impact on our community, we continue to work towards eliminating the stigma that too often surrounds mental health issues and prevents people from seeking help.
Research is showing that there are many links between our mental and physical health: mental illness can affect your physical health, chronic physical health conditions can affect your mental health, and physical activity can also positively affect your mental health.
With 1 in 5 New Brunswickers directly affected by mental illness, fundraising continues to be an important goal the YFC Runway Run, but the Fredericton International Airport Authority also believes that raising awareness of mental health issues through this event will have a positive impact on our entire community.
A day of events for the whole family
That’s why once again along with the run will be activities for the whole family – details are still being worked out, but as with last year’s event you can expect some static aircraft displays, yummy food, activities for the kids, and airside access so that you can watch the planes arriving and departing before the run.
You don’t need to be a registered runner to enjoy the community events, so bring your family and friends to cheer you on as you cross the finish line!
Partnering with our community
The Fredericton International Airport Authority is delighted to continue our partnership with the Capital City Road Runners, who have provided our two Race Directors, Jos Eijkelestam and Corena Walby. The Capital City Road Runners are a Fredericton-based club with a mission “to lead, develop, and promote positive running experiences in the Fredericton community.”
