Local business, global reach

For many businesses in Fredericton and the Capital Region, travelling is part of how they grow. That’s certainly true for David Shipley, CEO and co-founder of Beauceron Security, whose work regularly takes him on flights around the world.
Beauceron Security is a Fredericton-based business focusing on the human aspects of cyber security. With more than 44 full-time employees, the company now serves more than 1,300 clients in more than 148 countries and supports more than 1,000,000 licensed users.
They help organizations to reduce cyber risk through education and behavior change delivered with made-in-NB technology, and that work depends on trust—something David believes is built best through in-person conversations.
With his expertise and experience, David has become a familiar voice in the media. He often appears on national news to help Canadians learn how to identify and avoid online threats. Recently, he had an interview with CBC News on holiday online shopping scams.
Travel is an essential part of David’s work routine. This year alone, he has already checked off his 70th flight and expects to reach more than 75 before December ends. Some months are steady; others are intense.
“September was my personal record,” David shares with a laugh. “15 flights, two oceans, two seas, five time zones—and zero lost luggage.”
Through back-to-back travel days, major client presentations, and long flights across multiple time zones, one thing stays consistent: almost every trip starts and ends at YFC.
His longest trip so far? Cape Town, South Africa. From YFC to Toronto and then from Toronto to Frankfurt and Frankfurt to Cape Town.
Global business made possible
David lives about 10 minutes from the airport. On most days, it takes him roughly 20 minutes from his front door to sitting in the departure lounge. That convenience, he says, is what makes a global business possible from a small Canadian city like Fredericton.
As a frequent traveller, he’s also excited by how far YFC has come in recent years—the new, modern terminal with accessibility improvements that make frequent travel feel just a bit easier.
To David, the airport has become part of the city’s identity.
“Airports are ambassadors,” he says. “YFC represents our community every time someone arrives or heads out into the world—and it does that incredibly well.”
YFC’s growth is not only in physical improvements, but also in its increasing connectivity. He credits the YFC team for continuously working to bring in more airlines and expand route options, something he sees as significant for a growing capital city.
As the past president of the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce, David knows how important the airport is for all kinds of organizations that help drive the region’s prosperity.
As Beauceron Security continues to grow, air travel remains essential. Easy access to Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, and major international hubs allows David to build partnerships across the world while keeping his home base in New Brunswick.
A world of travel, a place to return to
And yet, even with all that travel, his memorable moment happened when he was coming home. As the plane descended into Fredericton, he found himself looking out the window.
“You see the trees, the land, the forest—all that green. After travelling so far, you appreciate what we have here at home.”
For David, that’s the best part: travelling the world, then returning to a place that still feels grounded, familiar, and full of possibility.
