Fitness, fresh air, and flying
Whether Hasan Aziz is flying in the skies or running on Fredericton’s trails, passion fuels his way.
“I use running as an outlet because it has such huge benefits both physically and mentally,” says Hasan. “So, for me, especially as a pilot, I use running as a way to stay fit and stay sharp.”
Hasan is a pilot for a national airline that frequently flies into YFC, among other international airports. This year, he won an entry for the 2025 Fredericton Marathon in the Fredericton International Airport’s contest. As the sponsor of the full marathon, the airport both directly supports the event and holds an annual contest to give away race entries to support the health of our community. Hasan ran in this year’s full marathon (42.2k) and participated in the 5k alongside his wife Angela, who is an educational assistant.
Volunteers are the heart of the Fredericton Marathon, both on the organizational committee and during race weekend—making it a fantastic community event. Widely known as Canada’s best Boston Qualifier course, this race attracts runners from all over the country.
Angela’s advice for creating a healthy lifestyle is to, “find something you love to do.” “If you can find an exercise that you love, you’re never going to feel like you’re working out—you’re just having fun!”
For out-of-province runners who flew into Fredericton, and for any visitors, Angela and Hasan recommend visiting our local breweries (many of which allow pets!), venturing across the walking bridge, and checking out our iconic downtown area.
“We love the trails here,” says Angela. “I tell everyone who comes to visit us that we have one of the best trail systems in Fredericton.”
“You’re going to see awesome sights and awesome people,” says Angela. “Everybody’s super friendly. We love it here!”
