In 2023, as record wildfires made headline news across the country, Forest Protection Limited’s (FPL) essential emergency services here in the Maritimes were highlighted as the Fredericton-based company battled multiple fires simultaneously in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

Along with a record-breaking year in aerial treatment mission days, FPL was busy upgrading its fleet of 20 aircraft, adding the Cessna C208 Caravan, to become one of the largest aerial work operators in Eastern Canada. And it was recently named one of Atlantic Canada’s Top Employers, recognizing exceptional workplaces.A FPL female employee repairs aircraft parts.

“This has been a remarkable year for Forest Protection Limited. Team FPL has demonstrated exceptional commitment and skill in providing essential services to safeguard our communities and natural resources,” said Mike O’Blenis, CEO and Managing Director of FPL. “Our biggest asset is our people, whose dedication and expertise drive our success.”

During the fire season, which typically runs from April to September, that team grows to approximately 90 operations staff, who are ready at their YFC home base for speedy deployment.

Along with aerial firefighting, FPL, founded in 1952, offers forest management and protection services, including a renowned model for containing the invasive spruce budworm. As the project proponent for the Early Intervention Strategy, FPL and its provincial partners are the driving force in developing pest management strategies to keep people, wildlife, and forests safe, productive, and healthy.
