Fredericton International Airport brings home three AirportNEXT Awards

The Fredericton International Airport (YFC) took top honours in three categories at the inaugural AirportNEXT Awards presented in Grand Rapids, Michigan this month.

The awards are part of the AirportNEXT program, a dynamic tool enabling airports to assess and improve stakeholder alignment and support. Airports across the US and Canada—24 in all—participated in a comprehensive survey of stakeholder sentiments regarding airport operations and effectiveness, and the Fredericton International Airport received top marks in three categories:

  • Tier 1 Airports (first place overall in the category of airports under 850,000 passengers annually)
  • Infrastructure and Facilities: Terminal
  • Infrastructure and Facilities: Technology Services

In the Infrastructure and Facilities categories, YFC was competing against all 24 airports, including airports that welcome over 16 million passengers annually.

“This is a tremendous honour for YFC and speaks to the caliber of airport facilities here in New Brunswick’s Capital Region,” says Johanne Gallant, President and CEO of the Fredericton International Airport Authority. “We’ve invested to create a modern and comfortable airport, however, it’s the people who work here who truly bring the airport to life. Their efficiency and friendliness were noted in the survey results, and I want to thank each person working here for helping to make this airport such an incredible ambassador for our region.”

The Fredericton International Airport completed a terminal expansion and renovation in 2021, modernizing the airport with features including power outlets at nearly every seat, an expanded departures lounge with natural light, a café pre- and post-security, and improved accessibility. These features, along with the dedicated front-line employees, create a positive first and last impression for visitors to the region. Air service currently includes a variety of airlines and destinations:

  • Air Canada (Toronto and Montreal),
  • Porter (downtown Toronto and Ottawa),
  • WestJet (Calgary), and
  • Sunwing (Cayo Coco, Cayo Santa Maria, Punta Cana, and Cancun).

With a strong record of growth and a new terminal building, the Fredericton International Airport (YFC) is a comfortable and modern gateway for all of New Brunswick and is the home airport for Fredericton’s Capital Region. YFC is home to four airlines serving nine destinations, including Canada’s largest hubs, connecting New Brunswick to the world. Community is the heart of YFC, and the airport is proud to be an active partner in key local events as well as supporting the tourism sector. Over 20 companies, employing more than 400 New Brunswickers, operate at the airport—making it a key economic pillar of the Capital Region.
