YFC Increases Passenger Numbers for 10th Year in a Row

It’s been a decade of unprecedented growth for the Fredericton International Airport, with passenger traffic figures rising 10 years running. In 2019, 427,085 passengers chose YFC, a record number for the airport.

Since 2010, traffic at YFC has increased by 62%. The airport’s 2019 passenger numbers are up 0.65% over 2018. This latest increase is particularly encouraging as 2019 was a challenging year for the air travel industry.

Johanne Gallant, President and CEO of the Fredericton International Airport Authority, points to several factors contributing to the airport’s success.

“These gains are thanks to our airlines, our community, and the tourism, convention, and business sectors that continue to bring new travellers to our region,” Gallant says. “We’re pleased to have continued our decade of growth in a year that saw many challenges for air travel, especially in Atlantic Canada.”

This decade of record-breaking growth has set in motion the airport’s most ambitious capital project to date. In May 2019, construction began on a terminal expansion and renovation that will create a more modern airport with enough space to accommodate both existing traffic and future growth.
