A first-class year: International awards and growth fuel success at the Fredericton International Airport in 2024

New destinations, increased capacity, and international awards contributed to a banner year for the Fredericton International Airport (YFC) in 2024. For the second year in a row, YFC saw double-digit growth in passenger traffic with 13% more travellers flying through YFC in 2024, compared to the previous year.

“We’re delighted to see the passenger traffic continue to grow, but it’s just as important that we were able to bring our community new flight options and more destinations in 2024,” says Johanne Gallant, President and CEO of the Fredericton International Airport Authority (FIAA). “We take our role as an essential service seriously, and it was gratifying to see this commitment reflected in the results of the AirportNEXT awards. For Fredericton to compete with some of North America’s largest airports and take top honours is an achievement our community can be proud of.”

Highlights for 2024 included:

  • YFC received top honours in 3 categories of the AirportNEXT awards, where it was competing against some of North America’s largest airports.
  • WestJet launched flights from Calgary in June 2024. Strong demand for the service led to an announcement that the service will almost double in 2025.
  • Air Canada introduced larger aircraft serving Montreal and Toronto.
  • Porter Airlines doubled its daily flights from Fredericton to Ottawa during the summer.
  • Sunwing introduced an additional destination (Cayo Coco).
  • YFC adopted the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program to further enhance our support for passengers with invisible or hidden disabilities.
  • The airport’s support of the local arts community expanded to include hosting local musicians throughout the year as well as the rotating galleries by Gallery on Queen and Gallery 78.
  • A total of 377,346 passengers travelled though YFC in 2024—a 13% increase over the previous year.

“Traffic is expected to continue growing in 2025,” says Jacques Fournier, Director of Commercial Development at the FIAA. “That strong demand is what enables us to bring increased service to our community, and we appreciate everyone who chooses to fly through YFC.”

With a strong record of growth and a new terminal building, the Fredericton International Airport (YFC) is a comfortable and modern gateway for all of New Brunswick and is the home airport for Fredericton’s Capital Region. YFC is home to four airlines serving nine destinations, including Canada’s largest hubs, connecting New Brunswick to the world. Community is the heart of YFC, and the airport is proud to be an active partner in key local events as well as supporting the tourism sector.
