Fredericton International Airport announces new Air Transat service at Annual General Meeting
May 15, 2025, Lincoln, NB: Air Transat will become the Fredericton International Airport’s (YFC) newest airline, with direct service to Cancun beginning in winter 2026. The announcement, made today at the Fredericton International Airport Authority’s Annual General Meeting, continues YFC’s trend of solid growth in passengers and air service.
“Sun destinations have been extremely popular, with many flights selling out,” says Jacques Fournier, Director of Commercial Development. “This Air Transat service to Cancun is a welcome addition, bringing even more choice for travellers flying through YFC.”
The 2025 Annual General Meeting highlighted the airport’s trend of growth. In 2024, Air Canada, Sunwing and Porter all increased service. The airport also welcomed a new WestJet seasonal service to Calgary, which saw high demand from travellers. Growth continues in 2025 with five daily flights on Air Canada, more flights to Calgary on WestJet, and Porter extending the season for its second daily service to Ottawa.
“This tremendous growth is thanks to our partners,” says President and CEO Johanne Gallant. “This is a team effort. We have a close relationship with our airlines, tourism departments at both the province and the City of Fredericton, the Chamber of Commerce, and so many more – this is a community that works together, and the results speak for themselves.”
With 254.1 million in economic output annually, YFC supports the entire region.
Emphasizing that visitors arriving via YFC spend $94.5 million annually in our province, Kate O’Rourke, Manager of Public Relations and Marketing said, “Flying through YFC makes our local economy stronger. The airport supports 1,345 jobs in our region and the travel we enable makes it possible to attract meetings and conventions, makes our region more attractive to businesses, and brings new revenue to our tourism businesses.”
The airport authority announced that Richard Isabelle has completed his term as Board Chair and Lisa LePage will step into the role while Aaron Savage serves as Vice Chair. Darren Lawrence, chair of the board’s audit committee, presented the annual financial statements, emphasising the airport’s solid financial position.
The airport has two significant capital projects upcoming; a runway extension in 2025 to better accommodate the larger aircraft which are now serving YFC, and regular maintenance (resurfacing) of the other runway in 2026.
